Pirin – Winter and Summer Tourism


Pirin is the second highest mountain in Bulgaria, with highest peak Vihren – 2914 m. The mountain and the city of Bansko nestling at its north foot provide excellent conditions for tourism and sports all year round. The city is located at 927 m above the sea level, and the ski area is situated vertically from 1000 to 2560 m above the sea level.

The climate is mountain and the snow cover lasts from December to April. New and modern lift facilities ensure access to routes suitable for all skiing skill levels. In addition to its wonderful ski trails, the resort has a fun park for extreme sports and interesting ski touring routes.

During the summer Pirin National Park offers magnificent views, numerous eco-paths and routes. The period from the beginning of June to the end of September is the most appropriate time for mountain marches. For the fans of extremer experiences the region offers wonderful opportunities for mountain bike, ATV tours, rock climbing, horse riding and off-road safari.

Attractive during all seasons of the year, Bansko offers attractive conditions for sports, vacation and recreation. The city is a combination of history, century old culture, authentic traditions, and internationally recognised ski resort - repeated host of the Alpine Skiing World Cup.

If you take a walk across the cobblestone little streets in the ancient area, you will experience the spirit of preserved architecture from the National Revival. You should not miss Hadzhiruskova, Hadzhivalchova or Velyanova Houses, which are among the symbols of the city. You will hear the clock tower bell ring of Saint Trinity Church erected in 1835. The church is in operation and one of the most outstanding churches in Bulgaria from the second half of the 19th century announced to be a monument of culture.
In the vicinity you can find the museum houses of the poet Nikola Vaptsarov, Neofit Rilski and the museum exhibition of Bansko Icon Painting School.

And if you feel tired, take a seat in any of the traditional Bansko taverns. Try the typical Bansko style dishes: kapama, chomlek, katino meze, kostureta s chekane, sudjuk.
